Polymer Chemistry

I would say that one of the subject that I have liked the most in my major is Polymer Chemistry, in this subject the plastics, resins and other polymers that are used in daily life are studied from a chemical and environmental perspective, describing the different methods with which these polymers are manufactured, their characteristics, properties, etc. And they try to find possible solutions for the environmental problem that its massive use supposes. In addition, we try to find possible solutions for the environmental problem caused by its massive use. At the beginning of the course I believed that only the chemical aspects of the subject would be studied, but I was surprised to discover that contamination due to the massive use of these polymers is also studied, and I would say that is why I really like this subject. It is a very controversial and broad topic, but in which many solutions can be devised to implement in the future. One of the things I liked to learn was abo...

Youtube Channels for Chemists

I would say that I visit many websites that help me better understand the content of my major. Although my major is Chemistry, we not only learn chemistry, we also learn many mathematical and physical concepts that are essential to understand chemical phenomena. For this reason, during the major I have visited various websites related to chemistry. In general, I visit YouTube channels since I learn better when someone teaches me that only to read the books of the subjects, for example, to pass my General Chemistry courses I saw many of the videos of Unicoos, which is a YouTube channel with a series of math, physics and chemistry playlists. I also saw several videos of Cesar Antonio Izquierdo Merlo, who teaches physics with a green chalkboard and chalk, just as it was done in the past. Although his videos are long, he teaches very well and does many exercises in each subject. I think I watched your entire Electric Charge and Electric Field playlist (86 videos) to pass Electromagnetism...

How can my major make the world a better place

In my opinion chemistry is essential in the life. From the air that we breathe to our own bodies are composed of chemical structures and processes, so understanding chemistry is important to progress as a society. Although the Chemistry major today is not as popular as medicine or engineering, it was very important in the past and is currently an interdisciplinary major that allows to control, develop or improve industrial processes, you can even create new materials or products chemicals for different applications. Personally, I would like to work in the industrial area once I finish my major. I would like to be able to control and even optimize certain industrial processes so that they generate less pollution, but at the same time be profitable for the industry or company in which I work. I believe that this is the biggest problem that have industries, since although they generate good for society, they also have many negative aspects such as pollution, bad smells or annoying noise...

A photo and its story

Imagen
This is the photo that I chose. The people in the photo are my best friends from college and me, from left to right are Maire, me (the girl with glasses), Stephanie, Gislhem and Ricardo (who also took the photo). This photo was taken two years ago on my birthday, my friends had surprised me after taking an exam with congratulatory banners and an invitation to lunch. I thought they would not remember my birthday because I had never told them what day it was, and we were usually on vacation on those dates, so they only congratulated me from a distance. That day we went to eat hamburgers and talk to our favorite place near the university. It was a beautiful surprise. I had never experienced anything like this. That was the last birthday I have lived with them, since the pandemic occurred in 2020, and I have not seen them since. I hope that for my birthday this year things are better and we can see each other.

A Food that I really like

I would say that one of my favorite foods is Lasagna, however I can not eat it regularly because my mom hates the smell of cheese in the kitchen. In case you do not know, Lasagna is a typical Italian food, which consists of a series of sheets of pasta interspersed with filling according to the consumer's taste. I prepare it by placing a little bechamel sauce (white sauce) in the bottom of the square container, then I place a layer of pasta sheets, a layer of cheese sheets, and on top of this last layer a layer of minced meat is placed with ketchup. Then the process of inserting pasta, cheese and minced meat with tomato sauce is repeated until reaching the top of the container. Finally, a layer of pasta is placed, on top of this layer a lot of bechamel sauce is placed and grated cheese on top. Bake at medium temperature for about 45 minutes, until the cheese on the top is gratinated. I think that Lasagna is a very dynamic food, the base is the pasta sheets, but it can be filled ...

My favourite piece of technology

Without a doubt, earphones are the technological advance that I like the most and that I use the most, I just put the earphones in my ears and start the songs that I want to listen to on the notebook or cell phone, I even use them to better listen to the classes. I remember the first earphones were given to me by my favorite uncle when I was about ten years old. When I was a child, I liked to listen to music, I think it is something I got from my mother, who played the music at full volume on sundays when she cleaned, or from my father who cannot drive without the car radio on. I love being able to listen to music in all its glory with earphones, in private and without disturbing anyone.   When I was a teenager, I lay in bed for hours in the dark listening to music. Today earphones are indispensable for me. I use them all day. I feel like my life would be very boring, gray, and depressing without them. I definitely recommend wearing earphones, it will change your life.

Why did I choose my major?

When I was a child, I liked to discover new things in nature, I went out to the garden of my house and entertained myself looking for insects among the flowers, under the stones and in the soil. My mom and grandmother loved plants, so they always filled the house with flowers, and I drew the patterns of the leaves, the petals, and collected their seeds. In my mind I was a scientist making a new discovery every day. This passion to discover remained with me throughout my school years, so when I applied to university, I had to choose between two options: Nutrition and Dietetics or Pharmacy. Biology and chemistry were my favorite courses, so I chose Pharmacy as it combined both courses. However, shortly after entering university I realized that the major was not what I expected, so I lost motivation and at the end of the first year I made the decision not to continue studying that major. After a while I entered the Chemistry career at the same university. At first, I was not ver...
